Liga MB Round 7: Top-ranked Aguila wins another game

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Liga MB top team - Aguila (6-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed tenth ranked Chalchuapa (0-7) 99-72. Aguila dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 28. 30 personal fouls committed by Chalchuapa helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Guatemalan Jose Barahona (189-99) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 4 assists. Power forward Brayan Garcia (194-98) contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Puerto Rican point guard Ryann Abraham (182-87, college: App State) answered with 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds for Chalchuapa. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Aguila have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-0 record. Chalchuapa at the other side still closes the standings with seven games lost. Aguila are looking forward to face Santiagueno (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Chalchuapa will have a break next round.

El Rapido will play against Fantasmas (#5) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Zekiah Owens came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 18 rebounds for Cojute in the defeat. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with San Salvador. Cojute lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. They share the position with El Rapido. Santa Tecla will meet at home Santa Ana (#4) in the next round. Cojute will play against the league's second-placed San Salvador (#2) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

Other games in round 7 were not that significant. Winless El Rapido was smashed by San Salvador on the road 107-71. Santiagueno lost to Brujos on its own court 82-100. Winless Chalchuapa was outscored by Santa Ana in a road game 76-96.



El Rapido - Santa Ana 64-68

Bottom-ranked El Rapido is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fifth consecutive match to fifth ranked Santa Ana (4-2) 68-64. American players dominated the game. No shocking result in a game when third ranked San Salvador (5-1) crushed at home bottom-ranked El Rapido (0-5) 107-71 on Sunday. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by El Rapido's players. Davis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Brujos players scored in double figures. Brujos' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Santiago Esperanza (185-93) came up with 31 points and 6 rebounds and American guard EJ Blackwell (193, college: Lourdes) added 18 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists respectively for Santiagueno in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Brujos. They maintain sixth place with 3-2 record. Loser Santiagueno keeps the seventh position with three games lost. Brujos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santiagueno will play against the league's leader Aguila (#1) and hope to win that game.
